Inglis Falls
Type: Cascade Waterfall
Height: 18 metres (60 feet)
Location: Inglis Falls Conservation Area
Description:
Inglis Falls is the crown jewel of Owen Sound’s waterfalls. Tucked into the lush forests of the Inglis Falls Conservation Area, this majestic cascade tumbles 18 metres over a rugged cliff of dolostone, where the Sydenham River meets the Niagara Escarpment. The falls were named after Peter Inglis, who operated a grist mill here in the 1800s, remnants of which still add charm and history to the site. Well-maintained trails, scenic lookouts, picnic areas, and interpretive signs make it a perfect destination for nature lovers, photographers, and history buffs alike. Whether visiting in spring’s full flow or winter’s icy stillness, Inglis Falls never fails to impress.
Indian Falls
Type: Horseshoe Waterfall
Height: 15 metres (49 feet)
Location: Indian Falls Conservation Area
Description:
Indian Falls is a striking horseshoe-shaped waterfall, similar in formation to the iconic Niagara Falls but on a smaller scale. Standing at 15 metres high, it spills dramatically over layers of shale and dolostone rock. The trail to the falls winds through a peaceful forest and along the Indian River, culminating in a picturesque view of the falls from below. The moderate hike is about 1 kilometre and offers a rewarding combination of natural beauty and geological intrigue. Indian Falls is especially stunning after a rainfall, when the water flow surges and the surrounding escarpment glistens. It’s a local favourite for a quiet escape into nature.
Jones Falls
Type: Ribbon Waterfall
Height: Approximately 12 metres (40 feet)
Location: Just off Highway 6, near Owen Sound
Description:
Jones Falls is a graceful ribbon-style waterfall fed by the Pottawatomi River. It drops around 12 metres over limestone ledges into a serene gorge surrounded by mature hardwood forest. Located in the Pottawatomi Conservation Area, the falls are easily accessible via a short, well-marked trail that also features interpretive signage about local flora and fauna. The surrounding area is rich in biodiversity and provides a peaceful backdrop for a family outing, a casual hike, or a quiet moment to enjoy the soothing sound of falling water. A viewing platform offers excellent vantage points for photography and relaxation.
